I’ve made a lot of mistakes when dieting. I’m kinda like a martyr when it comes to this stuff.
I love to make the mistakes up front and try things out so you don’t have to go down the same path.
I have tried countless diets. More than I can count with two hands.
I’ve done a diet where you only drink protein shakes all day for 30 days straight. Not fun. I ended up losing a lot of weight but put it back on just as quickly.
I’ve done keto and it resulted in me having a huge fear of carbs.
I’ve done low fat, detoxing, juicing…you name it, I did it.
And the funny thing is…
Those weren’t even my BIGGEST mistakes.
Out of all the things I’ve learned in my 15+ years of doing this is that getting on a diet is one thing. Learning how to successfully transition off a diet is a whole ‘nother beast.
Take out a pen, write this down and remember this before doing any diet:
50% of successfully dieting is getting ON a diet. The other 50% is understanding how to get OFF a diet.
This is #1 reason why statistics show that 97% of people who lose weight GAIN their weight back (and then some).
It’s a term called Bounce Back weight loss and it’s a real thing. This is especially true when you use methods like the ones mentioned above.
Short term methods always lead to short term results.
Your Body Does Not Like Dieting
When you get on a diet your metabolism starts adapting. Fat loss slows down and this is just a matter of physics because your body is carrying less as you lose more weight.
Also, your body just doesn’t like dieting because it thinks you’re trying to starve it. So it starts to protect itself from starvation by lowering your metabolic rate.
It’s the main reason why you burn lower amounts of calories as you get closer to your goal weight.
It’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle
When people say, “It’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle” it’s ONLY partly true.
You can’t keep yourself on a plan that has you eating less for long periods of time. You just can’t.
Yes, you gotta eat responsibly but you also need to know the strategies to get OFF of dieting the SMART way.
The smart way is the process called REVERSE dieting.
The Art Of Reverse Dieting
This is where you gently bring back the calories to a point where you start eating MORE while still keeping your weight loss goal.
Here’s the kicker: When you get down to your goal weight you can’t just stop there or start eating at maintenance level. This was my BIGGEST mistake.
The body is in a delicate position after dieting and you gotta bring it back to baseline in the safest way possible. This means you slowly adapting back to your maintenance level of calories.
The good thing about this is that it’s fun to do because you’re taking in MORE calories in the forms of carbs and fats.
This is how you can lose weight and eat EVEN MORE food than you did when you were when you were dieting.
This is how we fix your metabolism and keep your weight loss goal for the rest of your life.
After you go through the process of reverse dieting you can do so many awesome things…
You can do a “Body Recomp”, which is gaining muscle and burning fat at the same time.
Or you can do a “Lean Bulk”, which is gaining muscle while keeping fat to a minimum.
Those top two are some of the funnest diets to do because you’re chiseling in muscle in all the good areas of your body and you’re getting to eat MORE as a result.
You can do so many cool things when you diet down the SMART way.
